Do you wake up in the morning with eyes that are puffy. There are quite a few easy home remedies for treating puffy eyes. This puffiness in the eyes is cause by the excess of salt in the body. Here are some natural ways to be rid of puffiness in the eyes and make you look alert and awake in the morning.

Drink Water

The high amount of salt in the eyes is caused by water retention, hence drinking a lot of water in the morning can help wash out  all of the salt near the eyes. If your eyes are puffy makes sure you drink a lot of water throughout the day. Puffiness is generally caused by excess consumption of alcohol or caffeine, both of which drain the body of water. So if you consume alcohol or caffeine make sure to drink proportional amounts of water from time to time.


If you find that your eyes are puffy, cut two slices of cucumber and place them on top of each eye for anywhere between 15 to 30 minutes. As mentioned before puffiness is caused by a collection of fluid in the eyes, this can be countered by applying a cool compressor, hence a cool cucumber can be used.

Tea Bags

Astringent can also be found in tea bags. In order to use these tea bags place them in hot water for a few minutes, then leave them out to come back to room temperature. Then place them on your eyes, sit back and relax for 30 minutes. Repeating this process a couple of times in a week can help make the skin below the eyes look youthful. Drinking tea too has numerous health related advantages that you should look into.

Egg Whites

Yet another source of astringent that can be found in any household is egg whites. Beat the egg white, then with your fingers apply a few drops of the egg whites below eyes. Let it dry for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with water.

Wash your eyes

Washing the eyes with cold water is an easy way to remove puffiness in the eyes. A more effective technique would be to soak a cloth in cold water, drain all the excess water of the cloth then apply it over the eyes for a few minutes. Keep repeating this process until you are able to feel the puffiness reduce.

Cold Spoon

This is one of the oldest tricks in the book. This is least messy option, all one has to do is keep two spoons in the fridge for a bit wait for it to become a cold then apply it on the eyes for a few minutes.
